Two Fresh New Malbecs –  Just Arrived at Sherlock’s

Punto Final Classico Malbec 2010  Only $11.99

87 Points – Wine Advocate, December 2011

Bodega ReNacer’s 2010 Punto Final Malbec Classico (100%) was fermented and aged for 12 months in stainless steel. It is an easygoing, flavorful, spicy offering with a seamless finish. The grapes come from vines more than 50 years old whose production is less than 8 tons per acre, resulting in concentrated and flavorful fruit. This wine is unfiltered in order to preserve its distinct varietals qualities.

Deep ruby red in color with notes of blackberryblueberry and cassis. On the palate, the wine is balanced and round, with a jammy mouthfeel and a long finish. Pair with steak, pasta with meat sauce, risotto, lamb and cheeses.

Alamos Seleccion Malbec 2009  Only $13.99

This Alamos Malbec Seleccion has a dark, violet color with black tones. The grapes are sourced from four different vineyard sites in the Uco Valley. This results in a complex blend of ripe plum, black currant and cassis with subtle chocolate hints. On the palate, it has soft generous texture with concentrated fresh fruit and subtle cocoa flavors. Finishes long and lingering with a fresh, balanced acidity.

This is one of the best Malbecs I’ve had for a bargain pricepoint. Intense, rich, chewy. Full of dark berries and plum. Round in the mouth, good tannins, elegant finish.
