Guyot Choppin Brut
Winemaker Notes: Golden yellow color. A fine foam forms an attractive stream of bubbles to offer a beautiful lustre. The fragrant fruity bouquet reveals aromas of fresh fruit (redcurrants and stone fruit) With aeration, notes of citrus fruit and orange zest emerge, punctuated by a touch of dried fruit and flowers. The over all flavor is fresh and supple, unveiling a superb structure. It is well balanced and offers a pleasant finish.
The ‘Piper’ style plays on a register of freshness, vivacity and fruitiness. Piper-Heidsieck wines are joyful, youthful champagnes, with aromas of citrus and pip fruits contributing to their sense of liveliness. Consumers are pleasantly surprised when they taste these wines for the first time. If they were to be defined as a fragrance, they would be described as belonging to the Floral-Fruity-Fresh perfume family. These are wines that ring true, with great appeal yet good, clear-cut structure. The Cuvée Brut blend is made of around fifty crus, with not one jarring note allowed, since the final flavor should be one of simplicity and pleasure.
Wine Enthusiast 92 Points: A mouthwatering Champagne, with a fine mousse, this offers juicy flavors of plum, candied grapefruit zest, ground ginger and pastry. Vibrant and expressive. Drink now through 2020.
Pol Roger Brut Reserve
Pol Roger is one of the few remaining family-owned grande marque Champagne houses. Their grande marque status was guaranteed at the turn of the century when about 20 producers banded together to establish exacting quality controls for Champagne. The annual production at Pol Roger – less than 120,000 cases – is found in the best restaurants of France, England, and the USA, and is exported to over 30 countries. Pol Roger also was the Champagne of choice of British dignitary Sir Winston Churchill, who once said of Champagne, “…In victory I deserve it, and in defeat I need it!”.
James Suckling 92 Points: A complex, reliable Champagne that would show well in all occasions thanks to its freshness and class. Drawing on all three grapes (chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier), this has a complex grilled-nut and autolysis character overlayed across red berries and citrus fruits. Definitely a lot of reserve wine character here. The palate delivers lemons, grapefruit, peaches and mangoes in a refreshingly pure, fleshy style. The bright acidity, handy balance and tannins smoothly frame the finish.
