#3  Irish Whiskey

Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey

Tullamore Dew is a smooth and malty Irish Whiskey that has been distilled in the small town of Tullamore in County Offaly since 1829. It is tagged as “The Legendary Irish Whiskey” and while it is not the oldest whiskey of its kind, Tullamore Dew is rich with history and a favorite for many whiskey drinkers for a good reason: it’s a fine Irish whiskey.

In 1887, a man by the name of Daniel E Williams (D.E.W.) became the general manager and really got Tullamore Dew off and running. This was evident with its new slogan, “Give every man his Dew.”  It is aged from 4-7 years in used bourbon, port and sherry casks. The results are wonderful:

Sweet charred wood and citrus scent with strong malt character precedes a whiskey that is easy to consume neat and even easier to consume with an ice cube or splash of water. The sweetness and spiciness of the whiskey will mellow to a very smooth whiskey glow of an aftertaste.

#3 Irish Beer

Smithwicks Irish Ale

(Usually pronounced ‘Smitticks’ – silent W)

Over 300 years ago in 1710, John Smithwick began brewing his first Ales – although the Smithwick’s story started long before then.
He chose the site of an ancient monastery – St.Francis Abbey, to position his brewery. John was inspired by a tradition of brewing on this site, the foundations of which were laid four centuries earlier.

Back in the 13th century The Franciscans established an Abbey, with its own well, on the banks of the River Nore in Kilkenny. Whilst brewing and barley cultivation are recorded in Irish Annals from the mists of time, the strong brewing tradition that exists in Kilkenny started with these monks who would have brewed their own light ale for their visitors, using water from St. Francis’ Well.

To this day the Abbey stands proudly at the heart of the brewery and continues to inspire our brewers. Smithwick’s Superior Irish Ale – Crafted and perfected since 1710.

Beautiful reddish-brown color with aromas and flavors of light caramel malt, light roasted malt, bread, and lightly spicy/earthy hops.
